Somerset Shipwreck Cider Brandy (50cl, 43% abv).
In 2007, en-route to South Africa, the MSC Napoli was beached off Devon. Its cargo included new, empty Allier oak barrels destined for The Cape’s finest vineyards. Some of the shipwrecked barrels found their way to us, having been protected from the sea by being packed among bibles written in Zulu. Maturing our brandy in these barrels gives a sophisticated finish worthy of single cask bottling. We now buy new barrels from the same cooperage. The finely grained new Allier oak is what creates the distinctive smoked, oaky taste of Shipwreck. It smells fruity but with smoke and oak and toasted apples and hints of mahogany. A smoky, sophisticated and distinctively oaky finish.

It’s not super complex but that’s not the point – it’s lovely and fresh and enticing. In the mouth: There’s a little more intensity here. Ripe, rounded, juicy. Pears, honey, white grape and green leafiness. Just enough of the tannin and acidity to keep that touch of sweetness in balance. There’s nothing challenging or harsh whatsoever. The tingle of fizz is really well-judged too. It’s very harmonious. This is a really nice, clean, fresh drinking perry.” Adam Wells Cider Review

20 Year Old Somerset Cider Brandy
“The apples are back in force, like ghosts returning to a spirit fire; concentrated, dense and warming.” Financial Times
“I must confess the product is very good, a most respectable cousin to AOC Calvados, reminding us that for a period of time, Normandy and Britain were ruled by the same kings" Christian Drouin in The Art Of Calvados 2024.
Shipwreck Somerset Cider Brandy
Eau De Vie
"An apple spirit. A superbly apple-flavoured Eau de Vie with a heady perfume of old fashioned cider apples" The Guardian
Somerset Pomona
Somerset Pomona is a blend of apple brandy and juice, the result is a sweet, apple-scented liquid. This then goes back into small oak barrels for up to ten years. It makes an exceptional digestif and is an ideal accompaniment to a cheese board. Sophisticated complex apples with honeysuckle and a hint of almond.
“This is a blend of apple juice and cider brandy, which is then aged in cask. The result is a complex, nutty, toffee-laden delight” The Telegraph

A 10 year old Somerset cider brandy (70cl, 42%), made entirely with apples grown and harvested in our traditional orchards. Such a lengthy maturation gives it complexity, with a Christmas pudding richness, full of subtle bouquets and aromas.
Johnny Leach was the grandson of renowned potter Bernard Leach and son of David Leach. He continued the family tradition at Muchelney Pottery on the edge of the ancient village of Muchelney in the heart of the Somerset Levels.
These bottles were lovingly hand-thrown, using local clays, before being wood-fired in the three-chambered kiln to the high stoneware temperature of 1320°C which created their distinctive 'toasted' finish.
