In 1989, The Somerset Cider Brandy Company became the first ever licensed brandy distillery in the UK, marking the birth of the modern British craft distilling movement. Our ciders and cider brandies are still made entirely on the farm from 100% juice, using traditional methods.
We have over 100 varieties of vintage cider apples including Brown Snout, Stoke Red, Harry Masters and the legendary Kingston Black. These are all organically grown in our biodiverse, traditional orchards. Every stage of production happens here at Burrow Hill: growing, pressing, fermenting, distilling, maturing and bottling.
Somerset Cider Brandy was also the first spirit in England to receive Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, formally recognising its exceptional provenance and inseparable link to this landscape. Family owned, proudly carbon negative, and guided by the seasons, we welcome visitors to come and experience our farm throughout the year.
Over the past three decades, founder Julian Temperley has played a central role in reviving serious British cider and apple spirits. As the Financial Times observed, he has “done more than anyone else in Britain to develop classy drinks from homegrown apple juice.”
